Every school term, Potential Plus UK delivers Parent Matters workshops in a wide variety of educational settings and this Spring Term is no different.

The workshops are aimed at the parents and carers of high potential learners and are adapted to suit the phase (primary or secondary) of the children, as well as tailored to the needs of the school. Many schools include the workshops as part of a programme of support for high potential learners and they are shown to improve parental understanding, engagement and raise aspirations.

Our most popular Parent Matters workshop is Parenting High Potential, where, together with the adviser, parents and carers consider the characteristics and profiles of their children and explore how they can support their children’s learning at home. Dependent on the requests of the school they might also reflect on other aspects, such as building their children’s resilience or ensuring their wellbeing.

This term we are delivering these Parenting High Potential workshops at Trinity Through School in Lewisham, working with the parents of different year groups in different sessions, so that we can ensure they are well targeted for the age range.

Parent Matters workshops are highly valued by schools, many of whom ask us to return year after year. Parliament Hill School in Camden starts every academic year with the popular Parenting High Potential for their Year 7 parents and then agrees two further workshops for the other two terms, so that they can provide a rolling programme of support. Similarly, Lilian Baylis Technology School in Kennington holds a selection of annual Parent Matters workshops in its Summer Term, often at the same time as activities for the students aimed at raising their aspirations or enriching their learning.

The current programme of Parent Matters workshops includes:
• Parenting High Potential
• Supporting the Social and Emotional Needs of High Potential Learners
• Creative and Critical Thinking
• Complex Problem Solving
• Revision Skills for High Potential Learners
• Fostering Resilience
• Raising Aspirations
• Supporting the Wellbeing of High Potential Children

All of our Parent Matters Workshops are underpinned by research and experience. They aim to develop confidence and skills and focus on building positive relationships. We receive consistently high approval ratings from participants, averaging 87% Very Good or Excellent feedback.
