Children who have high intelligence and autism are considered “dual or multiple exceptional” (DME). The term dual or multiple exceptionality is used in the UK to describe children who have both high learning potential and would be classed as having a special educational need. DME means the same thing as “twice exceptional”, or “2e”, a term which is used in other parts of the world.
