{"id":35115,"date":"2021-10-25T15:41:34","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T14:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/potentialplusuk.org\/?p=35115"},"modified":"2021-10-25T15:41:34","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T14:41:34","slug":"lets-explore-day-lea-green-learning-and-development-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/potentialplusuk.org\/index.php\/2021\/10\/25\/lets-explore-day-lea-green-learning-and-development-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Let\u2019s Explore Day &#8211; Lea Green Learning and Development Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Despite the weather being somewhat inclement, Potential Plus UK member families met together on Sunday October 24<sup>th<\/sup> 2021 in the stunning grounds of the <a href=\"https:\/\/leagreen.derbyshire-outdoors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lea Green Centre<\/a> in Derbyshire for a day of fun activities and safe socialising.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Thankfully we had use of a large, well-ventilated sports hall as the heavy shower that was forecast took some time to pass!<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Our instructor for the day was the wonderful and flexible Mark. He quickly adapted our programme for the day to suit the somewhat soggy conditions outside and ensured that parents and children alike had an enjoyable time without getting too wet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">We started with some indoor team activities, including passing hoops around our circle, ensuring gravity helped us to do it as quickly as possible. It became a little trickier when Mark introduced the knotted ropes!<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35122&#8243; img_size=&#8221;960 x 564&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35124&#8243; img_size=&#8221;960 x 564&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35123&#8243; img_size=&#8221;960 x 564&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A lot of the morning\u2019s activities needed good communication between teams and partners. Outside in the woods we each \u2018verbally\u2019 guided our blindfolded partner alongside a rope through a maze of trees and a tunnel. We soon discovered the wet fallen leaves made it a bit slippery underfoot, but everyone completed the course successfully.<\/p>\n<p>After a well-deserved lunch break fuelled by cups of hot tea and coffee (for parents), we carried equipment outside and up to the bush craft area in the woods.\u00a0 Mark discussed with us what was needed for survival outdoors and demonstrated how to make a fire using only two pieces of wood and also using a bow and drill. At all times the emphasis was on how to do it safely. Then we had an opportunity to create a spark ourselves using manganese and steel. It was a bit tricky, so we did need to stay positive and keep trying.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/6&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35118&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35120&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/6&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">The reward for our hard work and effort was hot drinks, popcorn and toasted marshmallows all cooked over the fire that Mark had made.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35119&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35117&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;35116&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Next up was irrigation! The younger people were tasked with moving water from one area down to a \u2018field\u2019 using guttering. The emphasis was on the children communicating with each other to work out how best to do it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Back in the sports hall at the end of the day, we finished with a team relay, competing parents against children to \u2018body surf\u2019 a large mattress from one end of the hall to the other by running and using the motion of their bodies to move it \u2013 which the children won!<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u00a0Throughout the whole day it was so rewarding to see the children chatting together and sharing their ideas, passions and thoughts with others who \u2018got\u2019 them.
